Serving together as a church is one way we share in God's love and compassion for all people.
We support a number of local ministries both financially and as volunteers.
We also began a program called Snack Sacks which helps to meet the nutritional needs of children when school is not in session.
Our primary mission partners are: Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry, Black Mountain Home for Children, Habitat for Humanity, and Weaverville Senior Dining and Wellness.
You can read more about each of these ministries below, as well as other ministries we support throughout the year.
About a decade ago, our church started a ministry we call Snack Sacks.
Snack Sacks provides healthy snack food for children in northern Buncombe County during the summer months. The program fills a void in food supply when schools are not in session and children cannot participate in the free and reduced lunch program. In 2024, we provided 2200 food bags during June, July, and August.
Agencies we support with our time, talents, and donations include:
Nickel-a-Meal Once a month we give a "Nickel-a-Meal" offering in addition to our regular offering. This money is part of a larger effort of the Presbyterian church to to support ministries that work with those in poverty, both locally and internationally.
Weaverville Senior Dining and Wellness Program at the First Baptist Church on Main Street in Weaverville. The meal site is open M-F 9:00-1:00 p.m. and promotes the independence of people 60 and older by providing a safe, friendly environment to enjoy crafts, games, exercise, and a nutritious meal. A portion of our annual designated giving includes the Senior Meal Site.
Black Mountain Home for Children, Youth & Families BMH serves children ages 5-18 who have been abused abandoned, or neglected. The home provides a safe, supportive environment for these children. We often donate items to the BMH Thrift Store, which raises revenue for the home, and our members regularly volunteer at the Store.
Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry – North ABCCM-North is one of the crisis ministry locations of Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry and serves those in the north end of Buncombe County. The ministry provides emergency assistance for individuals and families in crisis by supplying food, clothing, furniture, heating, utility, and rent assistance. We regularly collect needed, non-perishable items and deliver the items to ABCCM-North in support of this valuable ministry.
Operation Christmas Child (Samaritan’s Purse) Every year we pack shoeboxes with gifts and toiletries that are sent to children all over the world, and many years a group travels to distribution centers to help sort boxes and prepare them to deliver the message of God’s love for all the world.
